2020 Virtual Gala

KCE staged its first virtual Gala on December 9, 2020. Departing from the organization’s long history of annual, upbeat in person celebrations, the event still attracted a large group of friends and donors who enjoyed a lively evening with Kathleen McGuirk as the emcee and David Hytha as the auctioneer. Dr. Ron Dieckmann presented the Executive Director Report, and described the daunting challenges to maintaining support of low income colleagues functioning in countries totally devastated by the pandemic. The participants viewed a stellar video travelogue entitled “KCE in Africa and Asia, 2020” produced by Emmy-award winning producer Eli Adler. The video captured gripping images of the KCE teams, local physicians, and sites in Ghana, India and Nepal. The on-line auction offered spectacular bargains on vacation stays, artwork, plane rides and wine.

The final tally for donations during the event exceeded the $40,000 goal set by the Gala Committee, headed by Margaret McGuirk, Patricia Gates and Noemi Johansson-Miller.  Funds generated by the event will go to projects in low income countries in three continents. The largest share of the money will be used immediately to support programs we have underway in multiple hospitals in Ghana and Nepal.
